About.
Benjamin Hindrichs is an award-winning journalist, filmmaker, producer and writer.
While his journalistic work focuses on extremism, conflict and migration, his films aim to blur the boundaries of non-fiction and pursue a common question: how to preserve humanity in contexts of profound dehumanization?
DARU/N, his first short documentary, has been invited to international film festivals such as San Sebastian and Raindance. The film is currently preselected for the 2026 Goya Awards. His first feature film Sijniyya: The Clandestine Music of Sednaya is currently in post-production, as well as his short documentaries Survival: A Song, Valdeci, and Three Brothers. In 2025, he founded the production company El Gallo Amazónico Films.
His journalistic work has been published in, among others, ZEIT, Krautreporter, Al Jazeera English, Mongabay, Mediapart, La Repubblica, Diari Ara, and Daraj.
Born in 1995, Ben holds a B.A. in Governance and Public Policy from the University of Passau, and a M.A. in Journalism, Media and Globalisation from Aarhus University and Charles University Prague. He speaks German, English, Spanish, Portuguese and Catalan, and is trained in OSINT, trauma-informed reporting and working in high-risk environments.
His work has been supported by grants and fellowships from, among others, Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, Filmförderungsanstalt (FFA), Journalismfund.eu, Investigative Journalism for Europe (IJ4EU), Earth Journalism Network, Heinz-Kühn-Foundation and Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes.
